About Perry L. Lauer

Perry L. Lauer was born and raised in McClusky, North Dakota. He graduated from Bismarck State College with an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice Studies and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice Studies at the University of North Dakota. Perry L. Lauer is a 26 year veteran of law enforcement and security. He began his career as an intern with the North Dakota Attorney General's Office - Consumer Fraud Division in 1986 as a Complaint Analyst. After completing his internship, he was hired on and continued to work in that capacity while attending Bismarck State College. In 1988, he then moved to Grand Forks, ND, to continue his pursuit of his bachelor's degree. While attending the University of North Dakota, he worked at the University of North Dakota Police Department as a Security Officer. After graduation in 1990, he was hired by the North Dakota Department of Corrections. He moved to Dickinson, ND and worked a split caseload as a Parole/Probation Officer and a Division of Juvenile Services Caseworker supervising both adults and juveniles. In 1992, he was promoted and transferred to Bismarck, ND to work full-time as a Parole/Probation Officer supervising drug offenders. In 1995, he was hired as a Patrol Officer with the Bismarck Police Department. In he was promoted to School Resource Officer. While working as a School Resource Officer, he coordinated and supervised special under-aged drinking enforcement and alcohol compliance checks for the department. As a ND POST Board Licensed Instructor, he taught at the the Law Enforcement Training Academy. He was also a member of the South Central Juvenile Drug Court Team from 2002 to 2010. In 2007, he was appointed by Governor John Hoeven to the Governor's Prevention Advisory Council on Drugs and Alcohol and held that position until November, 2010. He was awarded "Officer of the Year" in 2007 by the Safe and Drug Free Communities and in 2008 by the North Dakota Office of Traffic Safety.
