About Perry Newhook

I have over 25 years of experience in robotics, including space robotics, autonomous on-orbit servicing, real-time software and controls development, teleoperated robotics, vision systems, medical robotics, as well as systems and project engineering. I have been the project lead for Gateway External Robotics System since 2017. more commonly called Canadarm3. This is Canada's next generation of AI enabled robotics to be placed on the Gateway Lunar outpost currently under design. In my previous role I was the technical and systems lead for medical robotics beginning in 2002, managing the technical team for neuroArm, the world’s first image-guided MR-compatible robotic system for stereotaxy and microsurgery, as well as its commercial successor which is currently in development. Prior to managing the technical aspects of the neuroArm medical robot family, I was involved in such diverse projects as a 3D laser vision system, a 3D virtual modeler, an autonomous teleoperated system for underground mining, a teleoperated robotic system for inspection and repair of diverter plates on the ITER fusion nuclear reactor, a robotic system for hydro pole replacement, and a robotic simulator for evaluation of satellite rendezvous and capture mechanisms.
