About Petar Tanev

As the EU affairs officer at Free Russia Foundation and a Bulgarian non-staff advisor at the European Parliament, I have a deep understanding of the political realities and challenges in Russia and the EU. I have a strong background in international relations, human rights, and democracy promotion, and I am passionate about informing and providing expertise to EU officials, policymakers and stakeholders on these issues. In my current roles, I work with numerous MEPs from different political groups, warning them of the Kremlin's malign influence on the EU society and its interference in all democratic processes in the EU and its member states. I also contribute to the development and implementation of effective strategies and policies to counter and resist the Kremlin authoritarian regime and its propaganda. I bring diverse perspectives and experiences to the team, as I have lived and worked in different countries and regions, and I have collaborated with various civil society organisations, think tanks, governmental institutions, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria. Being motivated by the values of freedom, justice, and solidarity, and I am committed to supporting the European project and its democratic principles, as well as the necessity of supporting the ideas of democratisation of Russia at the EU level.
