Background
About Peter A. Subissati
Peter A. Subissati is a proud member of the U.S. Department of State Mission Canada team. As Political and Economic Specialist, his work is focused on forging strategic relations with key stakeholders and seeking new avenues to advance and strengthen the U.S-Canada partnership at every level. A government relations and communications strategist by training, his interests in the fields of international relations and diplomacy have involved him in numerous associations, committees and boards. He has also advised and lectured extensively on these topics and been widely published in major news outlets, including The New York Times, Jerusalem Post, Ha'aretz, The Times of Israel, The Globe and Mail and National Post. Prior to joining the U.S. Department of State, Peter's work spanned roles in the government, non-profit and corporate sectors. From 2007 to 2018, he served in various capacities within the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As Director of Political and Public Affairs at the Consulate General of Israel in Montreal, Peter advised four consuls general, served as the mission's spokesperson and organized numerous visits of high-ranking Israeli and Canadian officials, including heads of state, premiers, parliamentarians, mayors, businesspeople and academics. In 2011, he was appointed as Advisor to the Delegation of the State of Israel to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), an agency of the United Nations based in Montreal, and represented Israel at two ICAO Assemblies, as well as at numerous high-level conferences and meetings. He also delivered Israel's first address to the organization's 36-member state Council and was later appointed as the Delegation's Alternate Representative in 2018. In 2019, Peter joined the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA), the advocacy agent of Canada's Jewish Federations, where he led media relations and crisis communications efforts as Associate Director, Communications and Marketing amid a sharp rise in antisemitism. Peter moved to the private sector in 2021, further honing his multifaceted analytical skill set as Senior Manager, Communications and Public Relations at the ELNA Medical Group, then Canada's largest network of medical clinics. Outside of work, Peter is a prolific reader, an avid photographer and a consummate lover of all things Italian. A self-professed jazz aficionado, he may or may not have been a singer in another life.
