About Peter Alexander

An enthusiastic and motivated professional with over 20 years of experience in skeletal developmental biology, musculoskeletal tissue engineering, bioreactor design and organotypic micro-physiological engineered tissue development. I love the work that I do and the scientific endeavor. My job is constantly evolving and I awake every morning excited about learning or discovering something new and sharing its implications and use with the students and trainees in lab. I am a firm believer in the transformative potential of 3D tissue printing to study, treat and repair congenital and acquired musculoskeletal conditions including neural tube defects, musculoskeletal trauma and amputations, scoliosis, osteoarthritis and avascular necrosis (to name a few). Currently designing and testing adult stem cell-based systems to: a. Test disease modifying drugs for osteoarthritis and intervertebral disc disease (EPA, NIH) b. Build and treat skeletal tissue diseases in microgravity (CASIS, NASA); c. Study biofilms in joint infection and design antibiotic phage protocols (CARB-X, NIH) d. Fabricate and mature functional tissue-engineered implants for bone repair and joint resurfacing (DoD and BioHip. Success and progress all about team work.
