About Peter Allanson

All good businesses should have good lawyers, and all good lawyers should understand business” Peter practices as a commercial attorney focusing on commercial and business law services to entrepreneurs and small to medium enterprises in the Western and Eastern Cape. Peter's experience includes dealing with corporate structuring, corporate governance, shareholder arrangements, transaction negotiations and agreements, general business agreements and disputes, and the sales and acquisitions of companies, businesses and assets. Peter attended St Andrew’s College in Grahamstown and then graduated from Rhodes University in 1992 after which he was admitted as an attorney in 1995. He commenced his legal careers at Joubert Galpin Searle Attorneys in Port Elizabeth where he practiced for 10 years gaining valuable exposure in banking, insurance, commercial, property, litigation, practice management and marketing. Peter left practice and started a property investment and development company from inception focusing on commercial, industrial and residential property developments and management. This expanded to include the ownership, management and marketing of hospitality assets primarily along the Garden Route in South Africa. Here he garnered invaluable experience growing and managing this and other group businesses from scratch. Peter ventured out of the company in June 2015 and his interest and skills drew him back to business strategy, management, property, and legal consultancy to a group of dynamic businesses where he held board positions. The experience Peter gained in the financial and governance aspects of business has been invaluable in his current role. He re-entered private legal practice with DTS Attorneys in June 2018 to head up the Commercial Law division. Mike Searle, Peter’s mentor as a young lawyer, always held the view that to be a good commercial attorney, you need to have been involved in litigation to avoid the pitfalls for your clients. He believes that with his commercial and litigation experience, coupled with having been in business himself, he is well positioned to see the desired result from a client’s perspective and not just from the perspective of a well-trained lawyer. Peter is married to Tania and are blessed with two adult children, Jack and Kate. Mountain biking and golf are his stress release with travel being something he needs to do more of with his wife.
