About Peter Baert

I started my career as a assistant professor of corporate and financial law at the University of Antwerp. In 2005 I went into law practice as an attorney at the practice group litigation, arbitration and general commercial law of Stibbe, one of the leading law firms in Brussels. My main focus at Stibbe was on corporate litigation and arbitration, but general contract and company law (both litigious and transactional work) were part of the case load as well. In March 2008 I joined the corporate team at Ambos, an Antwerp law firm. At Ambos, the main focus of my practice was on corporate law, with both transactional work (mainly M&A) and corporate litigation. While at Ambos, I worked as a part-time legal analyst with Deminor International, a Brussels based company specialized in the defense of shareholder rights, from December 2009 until March 2010. In March 2010, I've joined the corporate team at Astrea. On January, 1st, 2014, I co-founded Agio, a new business law firm in Antwerp, as partner in the corporate department. At Agio, I continue my practice in corporate law, with a focus on corporate litigation and corporate restructuring (Act on Continuity of Enterprises - the Belgian equivalent of Chapter 11). On top of my corporate practice, I assist a leading credit insurance company on matters of (Belgian) insurance law, including complex insurance litigation and arbitration. As of November 1, 2020, I joined Braeckmans Advocaten, a boutique corporate law firm in Antwerp.
