About Peter Baets

My experience over the last 25 years in the biobased chemical industry is-I Supported the business case of many R&D and operations projects by securing incentives-I participated in various networks (eg BE Basic, BBC groeifonds, BIC) within the Biobased sector, and collaborated with many Biobased partners-Leading a project team to develop the scale-up of lactide to demonstration scale in an industrial installation at my scale-Leading a project team to develop D- lactic acid from lab to industrial scale-Leading a project portfolio to develop lactic acid from non food (hemi-)cellulosic sugars including pilot scale-Leading a project team to develop demonstration batches of new DHA containing products-The development of a thermodynamic model to predict the physical properties of complex mixtures that contain lactic acid and derivatives thereof-The development and techno economic evaluation of many process unit operations like ultra- and nanofiltration, electrodialysis, flocculation, extraction. My contribution as an inventor to a number of patent applications-Contributing to the development of lactic acid processing with minimum amounts of by product. These breakthrough innovations are not possible without good teamwork and collaboration inside/outside the company through a broad network of research institutes, companies and consultants. I'm proud of the many accomplishments that we delivered with the project teams. My background is- Chemical Engineering & Physical/Colloid Chemistry & Thermodynamics. Other activities and interests- Coding, Delphi - Berlin/Tokyo. As a hobby project I made a computer chess program with Delphi - Berlin/Tokyo. It contains amongst others tree-search, neural network training/evaluation, pattern recognition. I'm currently developing software that uses similar technologies to create winning chemistries.
