As a fresh graduate from the University of Sussex, I now held my Media Communications degree proudly in my hand, and wondered what opportunities this new accreditation would present. But I was conflicted.while studying to achieve this degree, I had developed a strong passion for health and fitness - an industry totally unrelated to the world of Media Communications. Or so I thought. I wasted no time in applying for jobs that could further my professional skills, and fund my personal training certification which I intended to study on the side. I landed a role in Customer Application Support with Legal & General, and while it was not directly relevant to my desired career, it was a fantastic opportunity which taught me a lot. A professional telephone manner, working towards KPI's, and not to mention experience working in a fast-paced office environment were among a few of the skills I developed during my time with L&G. All the while however, I was still contemplating how I could combine my passions, skills and education into a single career. Then it happened. During my first year with Legal & General, unexpected life circumstances led to me to move to Malaysia. It was here where I realised how I could combine my passions and make them work for me. Being unemployed with nobody I knew on the same side of the world, I had a lot of free time to develop my media and marketing skills, which I did through a combination of Google certifications, online courses, and first hand trial and error. Applying for a job as receptionist at the gym I frequented, I was met with a confused face, and asked if I meant to apply as a gym trainer instead. This was my chance, I thought. A few interviews later and the trainer job was mine. After getting more involved with the gym, I noticed something about their social media presence: it was terrible. I could do much better, I thought, and so I did. I pitched my ideas to the gym's owner, and before long I was now in charge of the company's social media channels. My successes as both a fitness trainer and Social Media Marketing Manager continued to grow, until once again, life circumstances led to my return to England. That is where I sit today, with a track record of wowing customers regardless of what industry I'm in, and a proven ability to learn, adapt, and prosper, all with a smile.
