About Peter Cahill

Data engineer and scientist | Language and linguistics specialist I inexplicably enjoy finding both the hidden structure in human languages and the hidden assumptions in our code. In both human and computer languages, I want to know how far I can push the argument structure. I believe that the pain points in the data space are often where the most impact is hiding. Variability is a feature, not a bug. A variable can be normally distributed or important, not both. The impact of low probability events is greater than our estimates. Outliers are usually the message. Because of this, I like extracting critical decision-relevant information from messy data, like human language, time series and extreme events. I enjoy working in small, dynamic, mission driven teams, and am always looking to connect with people with slightly unorthodox opinions.
