Ever since I was young, I’ve always had a fascination with the finance and business world and how it all works. So, it was no real surprise to anyone that when I graduated from university, I would begin a career in personal finance and I threw myself into it and worked my way into senior positions with the likes of Merideon Wealth Strategies, Nexus Wealth Management and BT Financial Group. I loved it, and still do really. Since 2015, I’ve happily volunteered with Curtin University as a guest lecturer and mentor to students looking to transition from academia into the corporate world. I still do this and get a lot of satisfaction from being able to pass on my experience to others. Now I feel privileged to be able to apply my specialist skills with a company that is on a clear mission to save lives and prevent injuries in the often-dangerous world of live mining maintenance. I still crunch the numbers but now it’s as the CFO of Koodaideri Innovation and Technology. How did I get here? The company’s CEO Shane Lewis was one of my financial advice clients and his vision of creating a safer work environment in the mining industry through world-first patented tech innovation was compelling. I was hoping he’d offer me a position, and he did. The transition from personal finance into a mining tech startup has me on a learning curve but I know that I’m making a difference.
