About Peter Carey

After obtaining his B.Sc. at the University of Toronto in 1981 and working as an exploration geophysicist, Peter obtained his LL.B. from the University of Windsor in 1987. Called to the Ontario Bar in 1989, Peter is an experienced senior litigation counsel. He has been lead counsel in over 110 reported Court decisions. Peter practices in the area of commercial litigation and appears extensively on the Commercial List in Toronto. He is a forceful leader and strategist who excels in complex multi-party litigation. Peter has acted for banks, financial institutions, public companies, private companies and individuals. Peter has appeared at all levels of Court in Ontario. In addition, he has represented clients before regulatory tribunals such as the IIROC, the Ontario Securities Commission, the Law Society of Ontario and the Real Estate Council of Ontario. Peter has also acted as counsel to the appeal panel of the Certified Public Accountants of Ontario. Peter has successfully prosecuted and defended legal proceedings involving sophisticated and complex matters, including injunctions of all kinds, construction disputes including construction liens, contractual disputes, shareholders disputes, oppression remedies, public company litigation, franchises, fraud, white collar employment law and estate litigation, among other areas. Peter has been on the executive of the Civil Litigation Section of the Ontario Bar Association and was Chairman of the Standing Committee on Justice Reform. He speaks regularly on topics related to commercial litigation. Peter is legal counsel to Jazz.FM91 and to the Canadian Black Belt Hall of Fame. Peter obtained a black belt in Go Jo Ryu Karate and has trained at the Hon Bu Do Jo in Naha Okinawa. He is a Nitrox Certified Advanced Open Water scuba diver with over 200 logged dives. Peter also plays trumpet with the 48th Highlanders Military Band and at numerous Royal Conservatory of Music events.
