About Peter Chemis

I specialise in employment law, industrial relations and related areas, and lead Buddle Findlay’s national employment team. Between 2010 and 2017 I was the National Chairman of Buddle Findlay and have been a partner of the firm for 25 years and was awarded Managing Partner of the Year at the 2017 New Zealand Law Awards. I am a "Leading individual" in Legal 500 and a "Notable Practitioner" in Chambers & Partners. He's commercial and pragmatic, and is a very grounding influence in sensitive situations". I work predominantly in the health, education, financial, energy and transport sectors. My experience spans both private and public sectors and I regularly advise clients on the employment and industrial aspects of large mergers, acquisitions, restructurings and organisational change. In the private sector, I provide strategic industrial and employment advice to a number of large organisations, including various multi-nationals. In the public sector my clients include District Health Boards, Universities, Polytechs and various government departments and agencies.
