About Peter Chung

I manage ISAAC to ensure high quality imaging, chemical and crystallographic analyses for researchers, students, and commercial customers. I manage all aspects of resource to provide a gold standard service, reinvesting income to maintain state-of-the-art status. I set up and run ISAAC (Imaging Spectroscopy and Analysis Centre), in the School of Geographical and Earth Sciences (GES) at the University of Glasgow. This is a university wide facility available to external users since 2010. ISAAC is equipped with state-of-the-art scanning electron microscopes (SEM’s). SEM’s are among the most versatile and widely used tools of modern science, and they enable detailed characterisation of the morphology, composition and chemistry of inorganic and organic materials. We are able to ESEM ‘environmental’ mode, permitting accurate examination of ‘wet’ samples. Raman microscopy is also available The Renishaw InVia Raman microscope yields high resolution Raman spectra for determination of molecular compositions and bonding. The instrument is automated for ease of use and enables both point analysis and mapping.
