About Peter Deboran

Peter: father, husband, a guy who likes to do things well. I am relentless in seeking better opportunities and outcomes for the most vulnerable among us. As a Principal, I work every day to help teachers become anti-oppressive and anti-racist professionals who reflect on their practice to identify and remove barriers to achieving equitable outcomes for all- co-founder and chair, The Walk for Andrea, an official SickKids community fundraiser (2016-2019)- board member and Chair, Volunteers, of the Markham-Milliken Children’s Festival (2014-2018)- event chair for the 10th Anniversary of Asian Heritage Month for Toronto’s Public and Catholic boards (2008- 2011)- initiated “Great Friends, Better World”, a fundraising event for Markham/Scarborough based social services (2013) Formally, I was an active member of the ROM South Asia Committee which developed the Sir Christopher Ondaatche Gallery, a permanent wing devoted to the art and antiquities of South Asia at the Royal Ontario Museum. For Outreach International and CanMAP (Canadian Medical Aid Program), I traveled internationally to provide oversight on distribution of medicines to rural areas in South Asia. A long time ago, I was Executive Vice President, Black and Caribbean Community Action Committee. Peter graduated from the University of Toronto and helped establish two scholarships there, in addition to helping found the Caribbean Studies Program. Peter is also a graduate of the University of Ottawa and Seneca College. He is married to Jyoti Parmar, DDS, a public health manager. They are the loving parents of Sahil, Anika and Jaya. Specialties: Peter supports educators, community and youth groups by using a range of experiences. Including: 1. Youth Leadership and Mentorship 2. Data driven and collaborative problem solving for school and community groups 3. Hard work, Integrity and kindness which others say they appreciate.
