About Peter Dejong

Curiosity, eagerness to learn and understand our changing society have always been my driving force. Motivating a team of photographers, coordinating coverage, editing and working across different platforms with deadlines to create a visual report with impact are my strong points. I enjoy implementing new techniques, exploring new and different ways of coverage, and adapting to the changing requirements in the way we cover news events and enterprise. I have gone through the transition from developing film and printing black and white photos in 1989, to current off-camera filing, remote editing and shooting occasional video. There is nothing more I like to do than to pass on my knowledge and experience, like Horst Faas, who was my mentor and who hired me. I spent time on assignments; on average 4 weeks, with some assignments lasting up to two months,(both Gulf Wars, Pakistan after 9/11) or a long-term commitment, meaning numerous trips, for stories like Russia after the collapse of communism or the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
