About Peter Gordebeke

Basic research is the foundation for all downstream scientific development and application. I find it particularly rewarding to be involved in basic research with great potential for translation into real-world results. During my education and professional endeavors, I gathered multiple years of experience in both basic and applied research, and have experience in academic settings and the pharmaceutical industry. I have been active in multiple fields of research, including stem cell differentiation and neurodevelopment. Specifically, I have worked in the RNA-related fields, including lncRNA and microRNA. The common theme in my research has always been RNA biology. After academia, I was active in the pharmaceutical industry in a molecular analytics. The high level of responsibility necessary in the development of pharmaceuticals provided an exciting challenge. Currently, I'm a research project manager at the European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research (EIBIR), where I support large, EU-funded collaborative research projects, as well as clinical studies. I am involved in the preparation (proposal writing), as well as the management and administration of projects. I also lead the clinical and research data collection platform and initiatives on imaging biobank repositories. I'm looking to further my career into R&D and science communication, wishing to approach new problems with the mindset of a basic-research scientist.
