About Peter Gubbels

I am a rural development practitioner with over 30 years of grassroots program development experience in West Africa, focused mostly on sustainable agriculture /agroecology. Have strong skills in facilitation, action research, and local capacity building. For 9 years, served as Vice President for International Programs for World Neighbors. Provided strategic leadership and management overseeing 130 field staff in 16 countries, working with local NGO and community based partners in Africa, Asia and Latin America. I am a co-founder of Groundswell International, and currently serve as Senior Advisor for West Africa. In 2019, I was appointed a Senior Fellow for the Global Evergreening Alliance. I represent Groundswell West Africa network as a core member of the Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA). Specialties: Agroecology, food sovereignty, endogenous development, people centred approaches to improve rural livelihoods and well being, community based adaptation to climate change, strengthening community capacity, non profit organizational development, innovative ways for scaling out successful programs, rural development in West Africa.
