About Peter Holmes

Making mistakes and learning how to grow from them is a skill I've developed over the years. From welding and fabricating to traveling and exploring I've made plenty and grown from all of them. Cutting the wrong piece of metal or building a rail to short is always frustrating but fixing the mistake and completing the job is always enjoyable. Not only did I make mistakes in my professional life but in my personal life too. Breaking my foot in the middle of nowhere on a scooter trip in northern Thailand, booking the wrong flights, getting lost in Japan, are some of my biggest lessons learned. I decided to change careers from welding into cyber security. I recently finished studying at Colorado University’s Cybersecurity Bootcamp. I have always been interested in computers. It mostly came from playing video games and continued to grow once I built my own PC. I have developed strong skills in Microsoft, Linux, networking by configuring static IP's, VLANS, trunks, setting up dynamic routing, OSPF, as well as port security, secure SSH, and applying ACLS. I have also worked with SIEM tools such as Splunk and firewalls such as pfsense. Not only do I have hands on experience I also understand the cyber kill chain and the OSI model. I enjoy developing my skills in cyber security and am always looking for new ways to improve professionally and personally. While continuing to pursue a career in cyber security is a main goal of mine, I also love to travel. Traveling is something I will continue to do when the possibility arrives.
