About Peter J. Vollbrecht

Education: I aim to engage students in better understanding neuroscience and physiology, and the role that the nervous system plays in all aspects of physiology. I am curious and driven to engage in new teaching methods and techniques. Research: I am interested in the effects of a "junk-food" diet and obesity on the brain. Specifically, I am interested in the effects that junk-food has on executive functions involving the prefrontal cortex, including inhibitory control, attention, and working memory. Finally, I am exploring molecular and biochemical changes in the prefrontal cortex in response to junk-food and the development of obesity. I am passionate about outreach and service-learning and the role of these activities in pathway programs and bridge programs. I firmly believe that outreach and service-learning can be approached in a scholarly manner that will serve as scholarship for faculty and serve the community.
