About Peter J White

The role of the UK Health Security Agency's Modelling & Economics Unit, which I head, is to better understand the epidemiology of a broad range of infectious diseases and to analyse the cost-effectiveness of interventions against them. My personal research interests include mathematical modelling of the epidemiology of COVID-19, sexually transmitted infections, TB, and influenza, and the impact of health-care interventions. I am Professor of Public Health Modelling, Imperial College School of Public Health and Co-Director of the NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in Modelling and Health Economics. My publication list is available here; most of the journal publications are in PubMed: In addition to lecturing to undergraduate and postgraduate students at Imperial, I lecture on the Vaccinology course at Institut Pasteur and do occasional teaching elsewhere including Cambridge, Liverpool, and UCL. I've co-supervised 6 PhD students (on STIs & TB), one of whom (Rob Aldridge) won the Lancet Young Investigator Award in 2016, and I am currently co-supervising 1 PhD student. Collaborative studies of involve Harvard, King's College London, LSHTM, UCL, Yale, and the Universities of Bern, Birmingham, Bristol, Lancaster, Warwick, and others. Funding (past and current) was/is from the Department of Health, EPSRC, Innovate UK (formerly Technology Strategy Board), MRC, NICE, NIHR, and Wellcome Trust.
