About Peter Jackson

I was admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW and the High Court of Australia over 40 years ago. During my professional life I have acted for many clients in business, including from the rural community. I have visited many parts of the country as part of this work, appeared before a Parliamentary Committee into Banking representing the interests of country people, and appeared before enquiries into Local Councils. I have represented many farms at farm debt mediations and in court. A few years ago I received a phone call from a client in Thailand late on Christmas Eve to tell me that an Australian bank had earlier that day called on a guarantee that he had given to assist a farmer in Australia. He asked for my help. Despite the timing I urgently assembled my small team of lawyers, and we were ready to go to a judge on Christmas morning. By being ready to go so quickly, and demonstrating a real capability of resisting, I was able to convince the bank not to proceed with its demand under the guarantee. I have also assisted rural people with a wide range of business and property matters, such as the establishing of trusts and inter-generational transfers. This work has given me the experience base to act for city-based clients having commercial or banking problems.
