About Peter John Williams

I started my career as an apprentice, working on the shop floor in chemical industry maintenance and fabrication / manufacture. I have a background and career history covering many industries. These range from aerospace, defence, and telescopes, to nuclear, oil & gas. I have an array of skills developed on the shop floor, and in project control. I regularly utilize these skills which were honed over decades of industrial experience. Including fabrication, mechanical maintenance, manufacture techniques and processes, production of unique "one off" components, and prototypes. My work has involved machining in various materials (turning, milling, grinding, drilling, forming) welding, brazing, flame cutting, plasma cutting, soldering (circuit board repairs), fabrication in metals plastics and composites, blacksmithing, metal casting, woodwork, and basic electrical work. I am an experienced user of project controls software Primavera P6, P5, P3e, P3, Resource loading and analysis, Primavera Risk Analysis, and Microsoft Project. Detailed and high level planning/project control covering areas such as project bid, design, process, maintenance, development, validation, construction, commissioning and decommissioning. My clients and employers have included British Aerospace (Airbus & 125 Executive Jets), Thales (Aerospace, Space, Defence & Security), Telescope Technologies (Fully Robotic Telescopes), Jacobs Nuclear & Defence, TJ Brooks (Aerospace Component Manufacture), Aker Subsea Tranby, Aker Subsea Fornebu, GE Oil & Gas, Aker Kvaerner Oslo, Aibel Oslo (Dagny Topside tender), Jacobs Engineering, Sadara (RTIP Project), Gleeds, INEOS, British Nuclear Fuels (British Nuclear Group), Associated Octel (Petro-chem - steam generation, acids, alkali hazardous gasses and volatile chemicals), Calder Industrial Materials (Radioactive Isotope Containment), BICC (Fibre Optic Cable Production), Bovis Lend Lease (Pharmaceutical), Network Rail, Astrazeneca (Pharmaceutical), Medimmune (Pharmaceutical). I am currently constructing a furnace to cast the figurehead, for a copper Viking ship model. I enjoy passing my practical skills on to anyone wishing to develop practical skills in a safe and exciting manner and enjoy teaching others. I am a member of my local pistol shooting club, I enjoy downhill skiing, cross country skiing, and snowshoe trekking (occasionally sleeping in a snow hole). I have practiced ju-jitsu, SCUBA diving (holder of the British record for the longest duration SCUBA dive of 24 hours underwater in an unheated swimming pool in 1988), and skydiving.
