About Peter Johnson

1) Responsibilities at Deutsche Bank I reported directly to the Global Head of Tax and was a member of her senior leadership team. As Regional Head of Tax for UK & Continental Europe, I was responsible for managing the group's tax affairs in the region consistent with overall group strategy, and on a basis which generated sustainable value and protected the group's reputation and brand. Until 2022, this included responsibility for the group's DWS Asset Management business. Leading a diverse team of tax professionals in London, Madrid, Milan, Moscow and Warsaw, and with a network of local CFO tax coordinators across smaller EMEA locations, I was responsible for: • analysis, planning and reporting of the region’s key tax metrics; • providing tax advice on business and corporate transactions; • ensuring the region’s compliance with local corporate income tax laws and filing obligations; and • monitoring the region’s compliance with indirect and operational tax laws and reporting obligations. I was also responsible for the Group Tax organisation within the region, in terms of people management, budgets, etc. My regional remit covered 23 of the 50 jurisdictions in which Deutsche Bank has active operations, covering UK, Europe (except German-speaking countries), Africa, Middle East and Russia.(2) Personal Strengths My natural strengths, and where I tend to feel most pride and gain most satisfaction from my work, include: • An approachable, inclusive, collaborative working and leadership style – colleagues and stakeholders enjoy working with me and I find it rewarding to cultivate long-term working relationships based on mutual trust, respect and the open exchange of ideas. • Structured approach and clarity of expression, with a notable ability to communicate complex technical matters in straightforward terms, particularly in writing. • Intellectual curiosity and a genuine interest in understanding why things are the way they are, instead of unquestioningly accepting the status quo. • Voice and presence – in a word, gravitas – in the banking tax market acquired over years through thoughtful contributions to industry discussions at AFME and BBA/UK Finance. • Rigour and outstanding diligence in analysing issues, with meticulous attention to detail. • Nurturing talent and providing others with personal and professional growth opportunities.
