I am a down-to-earth, allround and effective communications director with more than 25 years of experience in a variety of communications roles. Comfortable in a fast-pace environment and calm under pressure. A confident self-starter who likes to help organisations determine how, when and with which audiences to engage in order to be successful. My motto: when the going gets tough, the tough get going. I therefore prefer to work for an organisation that operates in a complex environment and that deals with a diverse group of different stakeholders with diverging opinions. I am experienced in connecting strategy and policies with views and opinions in society. Expert in stakeholder engagement, issue management and crisis communications. Proven track record in media relations. I always go for impact. Communication should add value and support the company’s overall strategy and business objectives. I prefer a hands-on and pragmatic approach. I believe in teamwork and have experience in building, strengthening, developing and supporting high performing communication teams. I know how to connect people and have a strong ability to work effectively across functions and levels. I am conscious of the interests of all stakeholders and always treat people with respect and integrity. I am an optimist by nature who believes life is too short to not have fun. Happily married with Jolanda, father of two children, Thomas (21) and Juliëtte (19), I love football and The Rolling Stones. In various communication roles at ING I was responsible for advice, preparation, guidance and execution of some of the most complex communication challenges including the announcement of EUR 10 billion state support, multiple CEO/Board changes, settlement agreement with regulators resulting in a fine of EUR 775 million, M&A deals, IPO, launch of business strategy, public outcry over remuneration proposals and restructuring plans with significant fte) reduction of workforce. In addition, I have among other things, worked on global positioning of ING Group, the introduction of the company purpose, restructured the global comms, brand and marcom function and alligned the local brand activation with the global brand direction. Voted best spokesperson in the Netherlands by journalists. Acted as key media advisor and spokesperson for ING Group in the financial crisis. Before I started working in the financial sector I was active in sportsmarketing and worked for a leading PR consultancy firm.
