About Peter Karasik

Peter brings more than 30 years of experience in waste management, regulatory compliance, and environmental engineering to EcoLogix Group. Before joining the firm, Peter served more than 29 years with the Montgomery County, MD, Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Solid Waste Services. He held a series of progressively more responsible planning, engineering, and program management positions, eventually becoming section chief for Central Operations. During the last ten years of his career at the county, he managed day-to-day operations at the Montgomery County Shady Grove Processing Facility and Transfer Station and the Materials Recovery Facility and oversaw the post-closure care and maintenance of two county landfills. Peter took a break from Montgomery County in the mid-1990s and provided environmental regulatory support services to the National Science Foundation, Office of Polar Programs. Through a two-year Intergovernmental Personnel Agreement, Peter provided waste management and environmental compliance expertise to support the U.S. Antarctic Program through performing regulatory audits of U.S. facilities in Antarctica and preparing environmental documents required under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Earlier in his career, Peter spent several years working in environmental consulting, preparing environmental risk assessment documents, performing regulatory audits and providing technical writing services. He also served as an engineer in the U.S. Peace Corps in Morocco for two years immediately after receiving his undergraduate degree. Peter holds a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (systems engineering) from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a licensed professional engineer in Maryland and Pennsylvania. Peter is an amateur woodwind musician and an avid tennis player.
