About Peter Lane

I am an entrepreneur turned academic who uses rigorous scholarship to address real-world problems in corporate strategy, leadership, change management and technological innovation. I work with MBAs, managers and executives in the U.S, Europe and Asia as both an educator and a consultant. I use my my knowledge, skills and experience to help a wide range of corporations and not-for-profit organizations improve their effectiveness and ability to respond to challenging environments. My academic research has been published in a number of leading management journals and cited by other scholars over 22,500 times.(See the Google Scholar link below for a full list of my papers and their citations as well as links to the papers.) I am best known for my research on how organizations learn from each other and leverage that new knowledge - their absorptive capacity. The model of strategic renewal of organizations I developed with my co-author Steve Floyd has been reprinted in books in the U.S, France and Germany. I have served on the editorial boards of leading academic journals: Organization Science, Journal of International Business Studies and Journal of Management. I have been elected to several leadership positions in international academic associations including treasurer and executive board member for the Academy of Management's Business Policy & Strategy Division, and board member for two of the Strategic Management Society’s interest groups. I also have served in a number of leadership roles at UNH's Paul College of Business & Economics. I have served UNH’s Paul College as Associate Dean for Faculty & Graduate Programs, Marketing Department Chair, Hospitality Department Chair, Management Department Chair, Co-director of MS Management of Technology Programs (NH & Korea), and Family Business Center Interim Director. I currently serve as the Faculty Director of the Physicians Leadership Development Program that Paul College runs in partnership with the NH Medical Society.
