About Peter Leavy
40 years experience as a Warfare Officer in the Royal Australian Navy in a variety of positions both ashore and at sea. My seagoing career highlights are two sea commands (HMAS Stuart 2005-6) and HMAS Sydney (2009-11) including Northern Trident 09 - a global circumnavigation. Ashore I have worked in direct support to operations, strategic futures, naval history, maritime strategy/doctrine, strategic personnel management and representational roles. I have deployed to the Middle East twice and led the ADF effort in the search for the Malaysian Airliner MH-370 back in 2014. I spent 2016-2018 in Washington DC as the Naval Attache and then three years as Commandant of the Australian Defence Force Academy, responsible for the academic education and initial training of just under 1200 Midshipmen and Officer Cadets. Currently working at Joint Operations Command supporting ADF elements executing Operations. I am also President of the Australian Naval Institute and undertaking a part time PhD program through ANU.
