About Peter McKeon

Peter's doctoral thesis was accomplished at the Georgia Institute of Technology, located full time at the European campus in Metz, France. The research work focused on transportation safety and involved the research and development of an ultrasonic-based measurement system to continuously monitor the structural health of high-pressure hydrogen vessels. This project was part of a much larger European venture to explore the feasibility of hydrogen as an alternative fuel source. The work was directly funded by the Institut de Soudure, and allowed Peter the opportunity to work in close-collaboration with members of their research team located in Yutz, France. Peter investigated the interaction of guided waves in anisotropic plates and cylinders with defects of various type and shape. Analysis techniques involved analytical, numerical (FEM) and experimental methods. The thesis title was:"A fundamental study to enable ultrasonic structural health monitoring of a thick-walled, composite, over-wrapped pressure vessel" Specialties: Passed the Mechanical Engineering Ph.D. qualification exams in acoustics, dynamics, and control systems and is currently teaching classes primarily in the fields of control, mechatronics and design. Peter has facilitated over 100 different student design and research projects, many of which have involved integrated electrical hardware and software, and cross-disciplinary teams of mechanical, electrical, computer science and computer engineering students.
