About Peter Ohemeng

Self-motivated young Chemist with an interest in tweaking the morphology of a low-cost organic semiconductor (carbon nitride) as a potential agent for sacrificial H2 photoproduction and water treatment. I also possess a strong interest in the utilization of spectroscopic techniques to understand the charge carrier dynamics of semiconductor materials. An aspect of my current PhD project seeks to leverage on the tunability of carbon nitride to make new materials that possess structural, opto-electronic and morphological differences compared with benchmark carbon nitride. These property changes are traced with an array of spectroscopic tools including FTIR, UV-vis DRS, SEM, XRD, XPS, DLS and TAS. The materials are used in a particulate system for sacrificial H2 photoproduction as a clean fuel; a potential substitute for fossil-based fuels. Additionally, the brunt of Arsenic contamination is still an issue and calls for the development of greener remediation techniques. As such, we have developed a carbon nitride system that potentiates the remediation of Arsenic through a combination of oxidation and adsorption processes. Overall, my research projects are central to SDGs 6 and 7, providing a pathway to creating a sustainable environment.
