About Peter Omeara

I am a globally recognized expert on paramedicine models of care and education, and often credited as the first paramedic in the world to complete a doctoral degree. As an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Paramedicine at Monash University, a Paramedic Board of Australia course assessor, and as an experienced PhD supervisor I have mentored many paramedicine scholars. My research has contributed toward the emergence of paramedicine as a health profession, with my work currently encompassing the evolution of community paramedicine, paramedicine system design and violence against health workers. I have published one book, 12 book chapters, over 100 peer-reviewed papers and many other publications. Following a career in ambulance services as a clinician, supervisor, and senior manager, I have previously been a Professor of Paramedicine at La Trobe, Charles Sturt, and Coventry universities. I remain professionally engaged with the paramedicine discipline through my participation in the Australasian College of Paramedicine. In the United States, I am a Board Member of the Paramedic Network, Chair of the Global Paramedic Higher Education Council, Board Member of the American Paramedic Association, and an Advisory Board Member of the Community Paramedicine Association and Registry. In Canada, I am an expert member of the CP@clinic Scale-up Advisory Committee, member of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Community Paramedicine Technical Committee and a peer reviewer for New Frontiers in Research Fund. I am a member of the International Advisory Board of PRIME Centre Wales, a research centre focusing on primary and emergency care. More recently, I have joined the Sunraysia Community Health Service, Community Paramedicine Advisory Group. I am available for consulting assignments in related fields.
