About Peter Oomsels

I am driven to build cooperation within and between organisations that serve the public interest, based on solid evidence of what works. This has been a guiding principle in my professional roles, my work as an academic, and my civil society engagement. Professionally, I focus on developing and supporting effective teams, organisations and networks that serve 'the public interest'. I currently work as senior manager in the public sector team at EY Belgium, and have previously worked as organisational development specialist in the Flemish Government and as Chief of Staff in an international team supporting the development of a global network of Mayors to combat climate change. Academically, I have consistently focused on building cooperation and trust within the public sector. I obtained a Ph.D. in Social Sciences with a dissertation on 'interorganisational trust in the Flemish administration', and I hold master’s degrees in Public Management and in Policy Economics. As a civil society activist, I have campaigned for more cooperation, integration and democratic participation in the EU. I have taken up local, national and pan-European leadership positions within NGO's that promote a more effective, democratic and accountable European Union.
