About Peter Oxland

Pete's 33+ year professional career was spent working with a large multi-national Information Technology (IT) company, working with clients in many different industries - defining requirements, architecting solutions, planning and implementing various IT technologies and product-related services, and identifying ways IT can improve their value to their business. Since early 2013, he has actively been involved (as a volunteer) with a large provincial healthcare organization’s Critical Care (Intensive Care Unit) area as a Family Advisor and qualitative researcher. He continues to be inspired by the opportunity to understand the collective voice of patients and family members through research, and have this complement (and balance) traditional scientific medical research, to help inform change to improve the very challenging ‘world of ICU’ for everyone involved – patients, family members and ICU providers. Since the fall of 2016, Pete became a Distress Centre Calgary crisis line worker, and more recently a leadership volunteer/coach and peer mentor for volunteers, activities which is he is finding incredibly meaningful, simply a privilege beyond words. Over the past ~6 years, Pete has been privileged to host numerous community drum circles and kalimba workshops at Wellspring Calgary, a very meaningful, caring community for cancer patients and caregivers. During these past ~6 years, Pete has also been very grateful to have been a volunteer facilitator with numerous Alberta Health Services Grief Support Program's 6-week mature spousal loss support groups.
