About Peter Paredes

I am a spinning plate act.but the plates that I spin are complex applications that support multi-million dollar industries. I got my start as a Computer Technician at Penn State and Geek Squad; fielding questions from customers from about as broad of a knowledge range as possible. I learned a lot about connecting with different types of people and being patient while doing so. My internship with Philips Electronics was the beginning of my love for programming. I used PHP to transform data from a MySQL database into charts and graphs and thus began my obsession with scripting and data visualization. After my internship, I got a job with McKesson and made a dashboard for our operations group using the same techniques I had learned at my internship with Philips. I eventually started helping out in more of a Sys Admin role after some personnel changes and became pretty good with WebLogic and Shell Scripting. At US Steel I worked as a service-oriented architecture (SOA) admin. That position was something that blended all of the experience that I had up to that point. I did general Sys Admin tasks (configurations, shell scripting, upgrades, patches) and I also was the main communicator in our group. I organized our cross-departmental meetings and worked on documentation. Whenever I wasn't doing either of those things, I was creating web pages and portals for our SOA applications. I was brought on to IBM to support their Watson Explorer Search Engine. In my few months there I learned a great deal about search engines and assisted our customers with any questions that they had about using Watson Explorer within their organization. I switched over to IBM Commerce and resumed my spinning plate act.this time for their Email Marketing product that is used around the world. I'm was part of the Advanced Delivery Response Team that constantly monitors our applications and ensures that we do whatever is possible to keep everything up and running. In 2020, we were spun off as a new company called Acoustic and migrated everything over to AWS. I continued with my responsibilities and took on whatever projects were thrown my way while picking up skills in the AWS realm. I eventually was asked to join the SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) Team in June 2023. I've been the primarily contact for our SSL Certificate management across the whole company. A majority of my time is currently spent securing our customer domains by working on tickets and maintaining a close relationship with our provisioning team.
