About Peter Rijnbeek

Prof. Peter Rijnbeek is the Head of the Department of Medical Informatics at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, and is Professor of Medical Informatics. He is a health data scientist with 25 years of experience in Computer Science, Data Quality and Management, and Statistics, and developing RWD solutions. His work focuses on producing clinically actionable insights from observational health data by enabling data-driven healthcare. Improving interoperability of health data is an important requirement to achieve this goal. The Health Data Science research group of Dr Rijnbeek studies new methods for acquiring, representing, processing, and managing data and knowledge in healthcare and biomedical sciences and has developed land marking infrastructure and software for distributed analysis of electronic health records. He is an expert on the implementation of the OMOP-CDM, is leading the European Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) initiative He is the coordinator of the European Health Data and Evidence Network (EHDEN) project that is standardizing health care data at a large scale in Europe Finally, he is the Executive Director of the Data Analysis and Real World Interrogation Network (DARWIN EU) Coordination Centre that aims to provide timely and reliable evidence on the use, safety and effectiveness of medicines for human use, including vaccines, from real world healthcare databases across the European Union for the European Medicines Agency.
