About Peter Ryan

I'm an entomologist at the World Mosquito Program (WMP), where I focus on controlling mosquito-borne diseases caused by dengue, chikungunya and Zika viruses. With a career spanning over 25 years, I've dedicated myself to the control of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, leading various community interventions against dengue across multiple countries.At the heart of my work is the development and implementation of WMP's Wolbachia method. This innovative approach is aimed at combating not only dengue but also chikungunya and Zika and other mosquito-borne diseases. Collaborating closely with a network of eminent scientists and experts, I strive to refine and advance this method to enhance its efficacy.WMP's mission resonates deeply with my professional ethos. As a not-for-profit initiative, we work hand-in-hand with public health agencies and local communities, aiming to reduce the transmission of mosquito-borne diseases. Our efforts have borne fruit in promising results from international pilot studies, and we're currently operational in 14 countries, including Australia, Sri Lanka, Laos, Honduras, El Salvador, Vietnam, Indonesia, Colombia, Brazil, Fiji, Vanuatu, Kiribati, Mexico, and New Caledonia.
