About Peter Schalk

Peter Schalk is a Partner of KPMG. Peter has worked in Indirect Tax Services, mainly VAT, for over 25 years largely in practice but started his career in Indirect Tax as a tax inspector with the German tax authorities. Over that time Peter has accumulated a great deal of knowledge and experience. Aside from his practice leadership role, Peter is the Global Head of Automotive Tax, leading the KPMG’s Global Indirect Tax Services Automotive network, a member of the Global Indirect Tax Services leadership team, and the leader of the Tax Services Automotive Network for KPMG in EMA and Germany. Peter’s clients are mainly in the automotive sector (OEMs, Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers), the commercial vehicle and manufacturing sectors and Tec companies. Also Peter is advising clients in the Consumer goods, Retail, Real Estate and start-up sector. Peter also advises on process and technology projects, including ERP-/SAP S4/HANA implementation, tax engines, big data analysis, shared service centre reviews, VAT outsourcing projects, process reviews, tax reimagined (future of tax function), risk management systems for Indirect taxes and indirect tax compliance management systems (TCMS). Peter works closely with his clients to ensure that the appropriate process and controls are embedded in the underlying business. Peter has considerable experience of advising clients on a multi-national basis and has led many national and international projects. Peter has written articles in German technical publications and is speaker in client seminars and international workshops. Peter has been named as world leading indirect tax practitioners in the third edition of International Tax Review's Indirect Tax Leaders' Guide and in further leading articles.
