About Peter Schumacher

I am an experienced Industrial Designer with a history of working in the higher education and research in Human Centred Design methods and processes for complex human environments. Skilled in Product Design, Model Making, Lecturing, Design Research, Applied Anthropometry and Public Speaking. Strong education and design professional with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) focused in The Design of Pictorial Assembly Instructions from The Australian National University. Since 2016 I have been working with the Defence Science and Technology group, developing a human centred design process and methods to improve habitability for the Royal Australian Navy. We set up SCHED, the Studio for Complex Human Environment Design, to develop these methods and create a range of exemplar designs. We collaborate with academics from a wide array of other areas as part of our holistic approach. This includes collaboration with biomechanics for anthropometry, the Brain Body Behaviour Research Centre for fatigue and psychology and IVE for virtual reality tools. SCHED specialises in high intensity, high stakes, high technology, high human interaction environments.
