About Peter Sherman

Peter joins the faculty at the University of North Carolina’s Hussman School of Journalism and Media in the Spring 2023 semester as a full-time professor of the practice. He’ll lead a new marketing and communications program in health and integrated marketing as part of the Legacy for Lisa campaign. The program honors two-time UNC alumna Lisa Stockman Mauriello and the incredible impact she made before losing a battle with ALS. His decision to become a full-time educator follows a 25-year career at Omnicom Group, where he spent the last 9 years as EVP in charge of driving marketing innovation and integration across Omnicom’s new business and large client engagements. In this capacity, he drove the rapid expansion of Omnicom’s integrated marketing models, built the global client leaders community and was one of the primary architects of Omnicom’s integrated new business success. He re-joined Omnicom from J. Walter Thompson where he served as CEO of JWT North America. Prior to JWT he spent 17 years at BBDO, most recently as Managing Director of BBDO Europe where he led a region consisting of 35 offices across 18 countries from headquarters in Milan and Paris. Before relocating to Europe, Peter was MD of BBDO SF. And prior to SF he worked at BBDO NY for 8 years where he rose to EVP, Sr Account Director. He started his career in the Chicago ad community. Peter’s role as a professor is an extension of a long-standing commitment to higher education as an educator, advisor, and board member. In addition, he serves as a strategic advisor for HCP cureblindness (The Himalayan Cataract Project), an NFP dedicated to eradicating cataract related blindness in under-resourced communities.
