About Peter Syomka

I have over 20 years of experience in digital character creation, grounded in traditional art and formal training from art college. My primary expertise lies in realistic FACS-based systems, animation-friendly facial topology, and the refinement of efficient workflows for these systems, often working closely with other departments to help reduce production costs. Much of my career has centered around collaborative research and development, advancing realistic CG facial techniques alongside many talented teams. I believe the best digital characters result from a deep understanding of anatomy, coupled with technical problem-solving, thoughtful teamwork, and a willingness to always push further. Whether leading as an art director or contributing within a group, I'm committed to building expressive, believable characters that push the boundaries of what's possible for any project. A few notable highlights in my career include leading the facial and modeling team on a likeness project for the iconic band ABBA, and working on characters that won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, such as Neytiri in Avatar (2009) and King Kong in King Kong (2005). Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, photography, drawing, sculpting, and exploring new concepts for robots and cars.
