About Peter Tautua

Hi, I’m Pete. Once upon a time, I was deep in the music scene—writing songs, producing, and trying to make it big. It was my first love, but like all good things, it ran its course. Let’s just say being an artist teaches you patience, persistence, and how to survive on two-minute noodles. In the music industry, I was always working on a budget, which meant I wore a lot of hats. While directing music videos for my projects, I found myself organising everything—sourcing videographers, managing shoots, and crafting the vision behind the camera. The only thing missing? Knowing how to run the camera myself. That’s what made me want to study film—not just to cut costs but to take full creative control of my storytelling. Fast forward a few years, I’ve been fortunate to work with some incredible artists. I collaborated with Savage, a New Zealand hip-hop legend known for hits like Swing and Moonshine, and pinkiscool, a Sony Music artist blending indie-pop vibes with bold visuals. Along the way, one of my music videos earned a Sony Music Award—a proud moment that really reinforced my love for storytelling through film. Eventually, I brought my music video background into the sports world and found myself at Queensland Rugby Union (Reds). Capturing the energy of the game and the stories behind the players was something else—it wasn’t just work, it felt like being part of the team. It got me hooked on storytelling in a whole new way. Influenced by my Samoan heritage, storytelling runs in my blood—it’s how we connect, inspire, and bring people together. I’m incredibly grateful to turn this passion into my profession.
