About Peter Timmermans

I’m the product owner of a mobile application that allows merchants to accept contactless payments on a smartphone. Although initially developed on Android, we now also support Tap to Pay on iPhone. In this role, I support the product manager with the roadmap, support and challenge our different development teams, interface with payment schemes, supervise certifications and support partners and presales. I’m based in Brussels but we work with a very international team. My previous roles have always been around the development of traditional payment terminals, ranging from hardware design, system-on-chip design, system architecture, system software integration until manufacturing and product management support. I have been leading the Worldline expert network for hardware and embedded software until the carve out of the terminal division to Ingenico. Innovation is essential in our industry and this is why I’m member of the Worldline Innovation Network (WIN), this network aims to promote and stimulate innovation within Worldline. We have a yearly contest “WIN Awards” to which I contributed in several roles during the last 15 years: sponsor, stimulator, submitter, jury member and even a couple of times winner. A previous manager called me an innovation champion and this describes quite good my mindset: well-networked, positive influencer, open-minded and passionate about innovation. In this context, I joined the Worldline Discovery hub that aims to stay ahead of the curve in a payments industry that is rapidly changing in innovative and disruptive ways. We identify key industry trends to provide our customers with the knowledge and the insights to thrive in the payments landscape of the future with bold and innovative solutions. I had the privilege to follow several high level trainings: TransConstellation at the Solvay business school and Gold for Experts by Atos at the university of Cambridge and Paderborn. These training included development of projects on disruptive innovation and edge computing. I’m passionate about IoT because I believe this will ease parts of our daily life. The adoption takes much longer than I would have expected but recent evolutions like Matter, low power wide area networks (LPWAN) and short range radios (UWB) might finally change this. This will not only bring a real digital transformation of our daily life but answers also the needs of our aging population. I’m a volunteer at Natuurpunt since I care a lot about nature and climate change. But I believe that technology can help us to make a real sustainable transition.
