Background
About Peter Troch
Prof. Peter Troch has 25 years of academic experience in the field of coastal engineering and open channel flow hydraulics. His research is focusing on wave induced response of coastal structures (wave overtopping, pore pressure propagation, scour protection), on wave propagation and harbour penetration modelling, on wave energy converters (modelling of wake effects) and on eco‐hydraulics of vegetated lowland rivers. For his research, he is developing and using physical and numerical modelling and field monitoring at a wide range of locations. Prof. Peter Troch has been team member and coordinator for a large number of national and international research projects (e.g. OPTICREST, CLASH, WECwakes, CREST, PROTEUS, etc.) and leads a research group of currently 10 Ph.D. students and 5 post-docs. He published his research results in more than 100 peer reviewed journals, 200 conference papers and numerous technical reports. He is supervisor of 17 finished Ph.D. research topics. He is co-author of the international EurOtop overtopping manual. Prof. Peter Troch is member of various scientific committees of conferences in his fields of research, and has organized the CoastLab12 Conference (4th International Conference on the Application of Physical Modelling to Port and Coastal Protection) in Ghent. He is member of the Board of Directors of PIANC Belgium. He is member of the Editorial Board of the Elsevier journal Coastal Engineering, and reviewer to many scientific journals and international research agencies. He has been expert advisor for a range of (inter-)national coastal engineering projects. He has wide experience in teaching activities and research dissemination projects. Prof. Peter Troch is Department Chair and Director of the Coastal Engineering Laboratory at UGent, and is coordinating the design and construction of the new wave basin "COB" at Ostend Science Park.
