About Peter Vangheluwe

My research team is dedicated to uncovering the molecular mechanisms underlying disease processes linked to dysfunctional cellular transport systems. Our work focuses on defective cellular and lysosomal transport, which plays a critical role in conditions like Parkinson’s disease, neurodevelopmental disorders, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. Through innovative, collaborative research, we’ve contributed to over 80 high-impact publications in journals such as Nature and PNAS. In addition to our basic science work, our team’s findings are driving drug discovery efforts for Parkinson’s disease and other disorders. We partner with leading institutions including the Center for Drug Design and Discovery at KU Leuven, NIH/NCATS, The Michael J. Fox Foundation, SandboxAQ, and major pharmaceutical companies to translate our research into therapeutic solutions.
