About Peter Willeit

I am a Full Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health at the Medical University of Innsbruck, where I am the Director of the Institute of Clinical Epidemiology, Public Health, Health Economics, Medical Statistics and Informatics. I am holding a Master in Epidemiology and a PhD in Public Health and Primary Care from the University of Cambridge and a medical degree from the Medical University of Innsbruck. Before taking up my position in Innsbruck, I worked as a University Lecturer at the University of Cambridge and I am currently affiliated with the Cambridge School of Medicine as a Honorory Research Fellow. I am heading the Department of Medical Statistics, Informatics and Health Economy, which aims to apply cutting-edge methods in epidemiology and medical statistics in medical studies. I am responsible for the scientific coordination and data management of the Proof-ATHERO consortium, the STROKE-CARD trial and the Lipoprotein(a) Studies Collaboration. With my team, I conduct large-scale data analyses with the aim of enhancing understanding of diseases, improving prevention and informing public health decision-making. I have a specific research focus on cardiometabolic diseases as well as infectious diseases.
