About Peter Young

I have worked in the non-government sector and for the Queensland Government in a range of program development, management, strategic advice and leadership roles. In these positions I have contributed to establishing and growing high performing organisations and work teams, and successfully managed a number of reform and change processes at an organisational, inter-department and cross-government level. I have been a key strategic adviser to the Chief Executive and Minister, and a member of the Board of Management of a large and diverse organisation employing over 1200 staff and managing assets with a value in excess of $8b. After this 15 year career in senior management positions I have embarked on a new work direction. In late 2008 I left a senior management position with a large not for profit organisation to take up a role as a social worker, providing support to families with young children with a disability. I also completed my Masters of Gestalt Therapy, and established a small psychotherapy practice that I still operate. In 2011 I began teaching social work at Griffith University. I have a particular interest in supporting our students to graduate as compassionate, skilled and self-aware practitioners. Since 2019 I have been the Program Director for the Master of Social Work, and double degree Master of Social Work-Master of Mental Health Practice. The MSW program is one of the largest postgraduate programs at our University. I am also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
