About Peyton Boudinot

I am driven by a passion to innovate and improve aircraft instrumentation and propulsion methods, specifically focusing on gas turbine engines. By enhancing design to improve engine performance, efficiency, and durability, my goal is to contribute to solving the industry’s most pressing challenges. I am committed to advancing propulsion systems that push the boundaries of modern technology, expanding the possibilities of aviation. Currently, I am a student at the University at Buffalo, studying Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering. I plan to pursue graduate studies at the University of Michigan in the fall, where I’ll focus on gas turbine engines and energy systems under the mentorship of Dr. Karen Thole, the Dean of Engineering at Michigan. My prior research at the START Lab on gas turbine heat transfer and cooling technologies has deepened my interest in advancing these technologies and inspired me to continue my studies in this field. Outside of academics, I enjoy staying active through hiking, playing sports, and backpacking, which help me maintain balance and stay grounded-Conducted cutting-edge research on particulate deposition in gas turbine engines, focusing on its impact on heat transfer, engine efficiency, and overall durability-Contributed to the FAA's Ascent 68 project, collaborating with industry experts, including Pratt & Whitney, to improve turbine engine technologies-Led presentations to Pratt & Whitney, FAA officials, and the President and VP of Penn State, effectively communicating complex technical findings in both technical and non-technical formats-Gained hands-on experience in turbine combustion systems, experimental testing, and data analysis, enhancing my expertise in gas turbine engines.
