About Peyton Henderson

Peyton Henderson has always been of the mindset that "definitions belong to the definer and not the defined." She is teacher, advocate, adventurer, storyteller, performer, writer, trailblazer. She is in her seventh year of teaching and professes that her biggest goal is to make sure that her students see the the endless potential within themselves and define themselves, for themselves. Pursuing that goal is her passion and she wants to make sure that each child leaves more empowered than they came in. Currently, she is teaching 9th grade English at King's Fork High School. Prior to that, she taught Honors 7th grade English at John F. Kennedy Middle School in Suffolk, Virginia. At JFK, she was the 7th Grade Team Lead, PBIS Chair, Suffolk Educational Foundation Representative, and Theater Director. In her spare time, she works as a CASA for Chesapeake Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts, performs at and is on the board for Little Theater of Norfolk and is training to be a sommelier. Finally, when she should be resting, Peyton is working on a collection of short stories and preparing for a future stint in law school. To hear her tell it:"My mother once told me I could be anything I wanted. I listened."
