About Phi-Long Phan

Contrary to Digital Innovators and AI though leaders, I am more interested in solving problems with pragmatic and reliable solutions instead of following the technology du jour. Not every problem should be solved with the latest Deep Learning archictecture, not all data is Big Data and not every pipeline has to be run through an distributed Spark cluster. When it makes sense, I'm making use of them, but otherwise prefer regressions, trees, time series, etc. customized to my client's requirements. Although I enjoy tweaking ML models, it is only a small part of my day as "full stack" Data Scientist. For the most part, I build or automate existing data pipelines, deploy containerized applications to a cloud server, create UI frontends, review code from team mates in addition to planning out concepts and milestones with my clients. I'm a huge advocate of open-source tools due to higher security, privacy and reduction of vendor lock-in. My preferred developing environment is using Emacs on Linux.
