About Phil Baker

I am currently in the Jerome J. Lohr college of engineering at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. I thoroughly enjoy mathematics and physical sciences; I have taken Engineering courses such as Materials, Differential Equations, Statics, and Engineering Design technology, Advanced Engineering Mathematics, Mechanics of Materials, and Dynamics. I am currently taking HVAC, Numerical Methods, Renewable Energy Systems, and Senior Design. I have lots of work experience in manufacturing. I have had an internship at Daktronics in manufacturing engineering for PCA assembly lines as well as a co-op at Henkel as a manufacturing engineer for thermoplastic adhesive technologies production. In these roles, I handled many projects at a time that ranged for CAD design/drawings to fabrication of parts to solve problems on the assembly lines. At these positions, I also worked with lean manufacturing and implemented 5s standards to processes or factory areas. I have lots of work experience as a leader as a soccer referee: officiating a soccer match is very similar to leading a group in a sense that you make split second decisions regarding a group of people, who you are responsible for the actions of, and then instructing them to the end of the game. I also am a member of the South Dakota Alpha chapter of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, which is built upon "building balanced men". I am a voting member of the Standards Board within the fraternity. Within this organization I am: developing my leadership skills through the Balanced Man Program, maintaining a healthy lifestyle through the "Sound Body" and "Sound Mind" requirements, and also volunteering throughout the community.
